The statistics are startling !
- 600 million Indians defecate in the open everyday
- 1,000 children below the age of five die every day in India from diarrhea, hepatitis-causing pathogens and other sanitation-related diseases.
- Absence of sanitation results in the stunting of over 60 million children every year.
- Waterborne diseases cost the Indian economy 73 million working days per year.
- Over 30% of Indian villages have no access to clean drinking water.
Nothing ravages human dignity more than having to defecate in the open & drink contaminated water.
SANA designed an Integrated Solar Powered Water Purifying Station cum Community Bio Toilets to help restore human dignity. This model was one of the winners of the Google Global Impact Challenge in October 2013.
Using the grant money of Rs.30 million
SANA has rolled out the first phase of its innovative and unique social intervention - "
SANA's Surya Sujala Dhara& Haritha Bio - Toilets" which is part of our "Toilets & Taps-Transforming Lives Though Technology"
The first two of our social interventions were inaugurated on the 18th of December 2014 in thevillages of Boduvalsa and Devarapalli by Justice KG Balakrishnan, Chairman National Human Rights Commission & Former Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India.
