Managing the most precious element of earth - WATER. Water is a fundamental human right. It changes the way we live and it restores dignity to the community…SANA’s maiden initiative is at the RPVV School in Surajmal Vihar, East Delhi. It was inaugurated on the 1st of September 2012 by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Delhi Smt Sheila Dikshit in the presence of the Hon'ble Minister of Education Dr Kiran Walia, Hon'ble MOS Defence Shri Pallam Raju, Hon'ble M.P East Delhi Shri Sandeep Dikshit, Rajya Sabha M.P & Former Union Minister Panchayati Raj Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar & Hon'ble MLA Vishwas Nagar Shri Naseeb Singh and other Delhi Govt officials. In partnership with the Delhi Government, using solar powered panels and micro-ionising water purification process, SANA is producing over 1.8 million litres of drinking water yearly, of WHO standards. Over 1000 school children from economically backward homes are allocated 5 litres of water daily for their families, living in slums nearby. Green & Blue and Sunlabob were our technical collaborators for this project.

We hope this small step is a hook for the children to remain in school & this initiative will go a long way to alleviate the disease burden in the community.

A new adaptation is ready for inauguration in inauguration in N.Chamavaram village of Tuni Mandal, East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh.

In this case SANA identified a village, which has no access to clean drinking water and where the power supply was irregular. SANA involved the local Panchayat- with the co-operation of the DM. The Panchayat is a partner in the PPP model and representatives of the Panchayat have been trained by SANA and its technology partner Sunsource, for the upkeep of the water station and the solar panels & water distribution. The funding for this social initiative has come from the MPLAD Scheme of the local MP and HRD Minister Shri MM Pallam Raju.

The water station converts 1.8 million litres of contaminated water into WHO standard potable drinking water for the local villagers.


The success of this model has been appreciated and SANA has now been asked by the local authorities to identify at least another 50 villages to install similar water treatment plants in off grid areas for local villagers and install green bio-digester toilets so as to provide an integrated solution to address sanitation, basic hygiene and potable water in order to implement an integrated solution.

The Bio digester toilets have been developed by the DRDO, Government of India and the technology is now being licensed for use in the civilian space.

Completion by early 2014

SANA is now partnering with the Delhi Jal Board to install a unique and cutting edge project in the water space. SANA has roped in a technology partner from the USA Econopure & CST to convert the sewage quality water from the river Yamuna into WHO standard potable drinking water. This model will also be powered by Solar Energy to ensure that the entire eco system of the technology is environment friendly and sustainable.

Along with the DJB officials SANA has identified the location on the banks of river Yamuna- which is among the most polluted rivers in the country.

SANA will be installing a larger water purifying station here which can produce over 33,000 litres of water daily if powered only by Solar but up to 72,000 litres of water daily if powered by both Solar and electricity.

The DJB & SANA are exploring various options to distribute this water to the local community.

However initial studies show that there is a mind set and that the Toilet to Tap water is being met with resistance. The water itself is seen stigmatized and therefore even though it is pure and potable- the consumers are not willing to accept it.

This will be countered by launching an aggressive social awareness campaign using role models, celebrities and other icons and decision makers to break the myth of the taboo.
